4.5 Soldier boy starsI loved Lia and and Max. A brothers best friend romance. Lia is the sister of Collin from the previous book and Max is his best friend along with Gavin. The three guys served in the forces together went through life and death situations together and now out of the forces are moving on in life while still supporting each other. I love these three guys and I adored The right kind of reckless equally as much as the first book each for their own reasons. Book one is Collin and Addie's story with baby Chloe which was like three men and a baby at times and this is Max and Lia's story. Each book in this series can be read as a standalone but I also recommend reading the first book too. About the characters; Lia has issues, has a back story of events that she has never fully dealt with, she's sassy, comes across as confident with her tattoos and piercings but inside is a damaged girl that needs love and has secretly loved Max since she first saw him but from that moment he became like an overprotective brother to her and nothing more. Max has also loved Lia for just as long but blocked it out with other women, other women that could never fill the void only Lia could fill. Until he couldn't fight it anymore despite who she was. The transaction from Max's manwhore ways to being completely smitten was heartwarming, adorable and swoon worthy . I laughed and swooned, The right kind of reckless contains everything I love in a romance read along with some really good hot scenes. A brilliantly balanced romance that leaves you wanting more. No cheating or heavy angst, flows brilliantly by the author, it was perfect. These three men will capture your hearts . I am really looking forward to Gavin's story. Told in first person alternate pov, leads to hea. Arc received by netgalley for review purposes http://www.bbbf-sizzlereads-bestbookb...

What a great book and a great series! My favorite part about this book is that Max and Lia know they are meant to be together, but have to figure out how to get there. They both have demons and obstacles to face, but never second-guess their love. Friends to lovers stories always grip my heart, and THE RIGHT KIND OF RECKLESS is no exception. I highly recommend for people who enjoy a sexy, steamy, contemporary romance. When you find a book written by an amazing author, with a swoonworthy hero, a quirky, adorable heroine, an overbearing brother, and an adorable baby, you know you can't go wrong. So read and enjoy! You can thank me later :)

The Right King of Reckless is the second book of the Reckless Hearts series by author Heather Van Fleet. It is a standalone contemporary romance. It’s of the I’m in love with my best friend’s sister forbidden lovers kind. Max has loved Lia from the moment he laid eyes on her. But falling for Lia and acting on it are two very different things. Being his best friend’s younger sister, Max is kept from doing more than loving her from afar while serial dating countless women because of the bro code. Will his love for Lia outweigh his loyalty to his best friend? Will he risk his friendship not only with Collin, but with Lia herself in order to have the happy ever after? After a horrible experience at a frat party during college, Lia became a completely different person and had trouble trusting men. But the attraction she’s felt for Max has only intensified with time and the fact that he seems to want her as much as she wants him is making her re-think her outlook on men or at least this man. Can she ever learn to trust him?If you can get past the serial dating to get the love of his life he could never have out of his system, Max was all sorts of sweet, caring, and kind. He was sexy and swoony just as much as he was a protector. He was so sweet and invested in his relationship with Lee-Lee that he came on too strong and kind of gave me a tooth ache. And even though they both had some growing up to do it was Lia who had a more difficult time accepting Max’s love and their budding relationship.Although the story is full of emotional struggles for both main characters and a lot of room for healing, the plot seemed to loop around the same issue and felt slow in moving forward. This is my first Heather Van Fleet book and I feel very curious about the previous and next book in this series. Lia knows how to surprise her man, "Max groaned. “Warn a guy the next time you decide to go commando.” Max wants the best things for his girl, “good.” He kissed my nose. “You deserve a nice bed. That futon was a killer on my back.” I loved this book, I fell in love with Max.

***ARC provided for an honest review***The Right Kind of Reckless is the first novel I have read by Author Heather Van Fleet. This is also the second book in the Reckless Hearts series but can be read as a standalone. This novel takes you on a journey of a woman who is heading down a road of self discovery and a man who wants what he can't have. Lia had a traumatic situation happen to her in college. Ever since then she's dropped the good girl facade and brought the inner rebel out. She stripped the long brown locks and died them pink then added tattoos and piercings. But way down underneath this new exterior is still the girl she buried down deep. When Max came home from afghanastan he knew he wanted Lia from the start. The only problem is, Lia is Max's best friends little sister, meaning she's completely off limits. Max is known as a playboy. He goes through women faster than anyone else to cover up his secret want for the one woman he can only have in a friendship sense. The two are forced back together after a few months of not speaking when Lia suddenly gets arrested and needs someone to bail her out. After becoming a disappointment to her brother and to her parents she turns to the only person she has left, Max.I loved Max and Lia!Max is a jokester, he's freakin' hilarious. Lia is the rebellious one with a fiery spirit but underneath the surface is a hint of her insecurities. It was fun to see these two rekindle a flame that has never really gone out. I am a sucker for secret romances. I love the angst that comes with the 'any moment these two could be caught' scenario and boy did they get caught....can you say...AWKWARD!I had to unfortunately drop a star because even though I loved the hell out of this story line and the characters, I felt the need for more of Lia's background. I wanted more of the real feelings instead of the whoa is me. I felt like her situation was sugar coated over. This is a traumatic moment she went through and I wanted to feel more of that pain and vulnerability coming from her.Overall, I loved the hell out of this novel and I can't wait to get my hands on Gavin's story!

Hand me a tissue because this book gives you all sorts of feels! A heartwarming tale of two people in love finding their way to each other. Max and Lia's story is guaranteed to have you grinning from ear to ear and blushing from head to toe with their electrifying chemistry. Jam packed with humor, romance, family drama and an awfully adorable baby - the author created just the right kind of mix for a perfect contemporary romance to satisfy your romance cravings. I especially loved it when the author portrayed Lia as a strong and independent woman who works hard towards her goal and wouldn't let any man, even Max, to sway her from achieving her dreams. I also loved that Max isn't all caveman-like and goes Neatherdal on Lia by controlling her life, but is mature enough to step back and gives her the space she needs to find herself. Despite the player reputation Max has built himself around, he is absolutely mouthwatering a gentleman as a reformed player! The only reason I gave the rating short of five stars is that I was actually curious about Lia's past but did not find it to be fully explained in the story. Then again, I did not read the first book in the series and from the timeline it may have happened in Collin and Addie's story, so I'm definitely checking out the rest of the series! Speaking of, I need Gavin's story right now. P.S. I'd love to have a bro-squad like Gavin, Collin and Max. They are hilariously charming! (well, except for Gav's occasional grumpy a**, hehe). I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the author via Netgalley. Thank you for the reviewing opportunity!

After reading the first book in the series, I didn't think I could feel a more emotional attachment then to Collin and Addie...but Max and Lia upped by emotional attachment quota. The way the author brought Max and Lia together...drawn out as it was, created the perfect storm that drew you into their story. Where Collin and Addie's story was more lighthearted, Max and Lia's had a measure of darkness to it. There were many memorable moments of self discovery that brought the story to a different level of healing and acceptance. You just know that Gavin's story will be amazing, his isolation and sense of detachment to those around him, will make for the perfect end to the series of the three brothers, not through blood, but circumstances. This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.

This is the second book in this series by this author. This is the first book I've read by this author and it won't be the last. This book can be read as a stand alone read. This is a heart warming story of two people finding each other and their love for each other. The characters are really well written and have fantastic chemistry between them. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.Highly recommendedI voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book

Please note: I received a copy of THE RIGHT KIND OF RECKLESS from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to the publisher and author.Five stars and here’s why:Holy hotness! I loved it. Couldn’t put it down! This is my first book by Heather Van Fleet and I can’t wait to go purchase her earlier books and read those, too! This is a second book a series, but you don’t have to read the first book to fully appreciate this one. This is friends to lovers and falling for a brother’s best friend rolled into one hella-hot romance. **swoons** I love a strong female character and Lia doesn’t disappoint. Max is just the kind of guy a girl dreams about – he’s caring, attentive, and smart enough to play his cards right to win the girl. If you love romance with a side of sexy and an adorable scene-stealing baby, this book is for you.

This book really touched my heart because of the relationship between the two characters. It comes across so clearly how much Max cares about Lia. Even when they're not getting along, he is protective of her (in a good way) and wants her to be happy and safe. This quote, "And no matter what, I would always be there for her, if only as a friend." demonstrates all the reasons why Max won me over. So often in romance novels, there's so much conflict or sexually-infused bickering that you get the idea that the people want each other, but maybe not that they're actually good for each other. In this one, Max and Lia ARE good for each other, they bring out the best in each other and inspire each other to go after their dreams. That's the kind of relationship I want to read more of, because that's the kind of love this world needs. Five stars.

I really enjoyed the right kind of reckless it would be my first story by Heather Van Fleet and I'm so wanting to read Gavins book . I liked the relationship between Lia and Max once they get their feelings out they soon realize that they both have felt the same for a long time . Lia is a great heroine she's trying to build her life up it was beautiful to see her blossom adored her since of style so fearless . Max kind of frustrated me in the first couple of chapters with denying his feelings for the heroine due to the fact that she's his best friends sister and had something bad happen to her when they first met one another but as soon as they get together he became very swoon worthy . Liked the secondary characters it made me want to read Reckless hearts because the couple in that are a huge part in this one . The story line was paced well and kept me into the what was happening with everything . copy provided for honest review ****************************************hero=9 heroine=10 secondary characters=10 Chemistry= 10 steam= 6 romance=7 humor=4 darkness level=3 action= 3 mystery= 3 enjoyment=8 angst= 3 story line= 10 Story ending= 9character development=10 pacing=10 cover=10 stars= 4 author= 8 would I recommend this book= yeswould I re read this book= yeswould I read future books by this author= yes

Gratefully received this book as a pre-publication edition from the publishers via NetGalley. This was the first book that I have read by this author and so I am not familiar with her writing style however I will be going back to read her earlier publications. We are introduced to the h of the story (Lee-Lee AKA Lia Montgomery) as she punches her boyfriend (soon to be ex) when she finds him getting busy with one of her co-workers. The ex presses charges and Lia is arrested. This is when we are introduced to the H (Max or Maxwell Martinez) who is the best friend of the Lias brother (H of the previous book in the series) whom he lives with next to their other best friend Gavin (H of the next book I presume). Lia calls Max (who is in bed with a one night stand) to bail her out because she does not wish to let her brother know that she is in trouble. This is a book riddled with soul searching, guilt and attempts at redemption. Lia had apparently been a ‘normal’ college girl until she was molested by one of her fellow students. This event is the crux to the story since it was where the h and the H met for the first time when the H met Lia while saving her. It is also the source of Lias issues that have driven her to self-doubt and insecurity leading to her attempting to completely reinvent herself through tattooing and changing the colour of her hair, taking up boxing etc as well as a shift in attitude. She refers to herself as new Lia as supposed to the old version of herself whom she seems to see as a weak and helpless character. It appears that she did not report the attack since her brother and his friends were due to ship out to war the next day so she did not want to upset her parents. (This concerned me- evidently she is suffering from post-traumatic stress and has unresolved issues that would have been alleviated if someone (her brother perhaps?) had insisted that she at least talk to a councillor anyhoo..). We are told that Max has hankered after Lia since he met her – to the extent that he stole a photo from her brother and carried it with him all the time that he was deployed. He made friends with her when the boys returned from war and he realises that he is in love with her but is afraid to act on his feeling for fear that he will mess up the bro-code. Max has other issues as well. His father was abusive to the extent that Max and his mother were forced to live in penury to survive but when his father died Max was left with a large inheritance and he is uncomfortable using the money but on the other hand he cannot settle on a career so floats from job to job. The story progresses when Max realises that he cannot ignore his feelings to Lia and in turn she declares her love after they get over a misunderstanding. This is only the start of their story really – it takes them both a long time to overcome their own individual personal issues, let their friends and family into their change of relationship and come together as a settled couple. Lia has to come to terms with her own past and reconcile it with her acceptance of herself before she can fully commit to her love for Max. Max is a beautiful H who understands and accepts Lia as she is. Although in the early stages Max does continue to pursue other girls as a means to try to get over Lia, as soon as they both declare their love for each other (about a third to midway through the book) there is no unfaithfulness at all. The story does jump about a bit (ie suddenly we are two months into the relationship when last page we had been at one month) but I suspect that is the authors style and it does not detract. I enjoyed this book , intend to read the next in the series as there are fascinating tasters of Gavins story.

Second book in the Restless Hearts series. Collin’s sister, Lia, who we saw as a flighty, hardcore girl, in the first book, is shown here as a broken girl who was attacked by the “nice” guy she was dating in college and almost raped. Before that incident, she was a nice, sweet and shy girl. After the incident, she dropped out from college, hid in her parent’s house for a while, then went out to work menial jobs. She changed her personality and her appearance. Now she sports a lot of piercings and tattoos and hot pink hair. She assumed a new personality, snarky and hardass, but deep inside remains the same sweet girl. She just keeps her hidden very deep. She’s always loved Max but kept her distance because he’s her brother’s best friend. Likewise, Max has always been in love with her, but kept his distance, interacting only as best buds, so as not break the bro code.During the book, we see Max acting as her protector various times, as she works in a bar. She protests and tries to keep him away, because she gets jealous when he flirts with other girls. There is a lot of back and forth between them as their attraction runs hot and they do the impossible to resist.Meanwhile, Lia has been finishing her studies, paying for them from the couple of jobs she has, as a barista in Java Java and a bartender in a Jimney’s. Her plans are to get a teaching job, which means moving from her little town where jobs are scarce. As she and Max get closer, her professional plans complicate matters.Max was also dealing with his meaningless life. He, Collin, and Gavin had enlisted in the Marines and finished their round of duty. Now Max doesn’t know what he wants to do. He had inherited a big chunk of money from his father’s life insurance, so he had no immediate need for money, and was working at odd jobs, not keeping the jobs for long. He was accusing Lia of living an aimless life and she accused him of the same.I liked in this book that the rest of the gang appear again as strong secondary characters. Lia’s brother Collin and his girlfriend, Addie, Collin’s adorable little daughter Chloe, and Gavin. Also Collin’s and Lia’s parents, and Max’s family appear less frequently. I like the strong family and friends group, their constant support to each other. What we saw as flighty in Lia was really that she was studying and working and was scattered in several directions. She was very devoted to her little niece. There was a lot of introspection and growing up for both Max and Lia.What didn’t work for me was the constant back and forth between Lia and Max, which made the book drag a little halfway through.

Jam packed with humor, heartfelt emotions, and some seriously smoking hot chemistry, I adored every page of this captivating story and read it in less than twenty-four hours.I adored Reckless Hearts, the first book in this series, and I was already intrigued over Lia and swooning over Max before I even started this one.Lia is a fantastic leading lady. She has a great, quirky, feisty personality that I love AND she has a heart of gold and a layer of softness underneath the prickly surface. Maxwell, oh, my. He was a cad in the last book and he did some things at the start of this book I was not impressed with, but it didn't take much to win my heart. I loved how he changed for her, as if he was just waiting to call her his own before becoming the true version of himself.Of course, Lia's brother, Collin, is a real alpha-male and no one's going to mess with his sister, especially not a player like Max, so you know fireworks are going to detonate once he discovers their secret affair. This book is about finding yourself, and working hard for your goals, and how powerful and redemptive love can be.If you enjoy strong, alpha-male protective types, intriguing heroines, and scintillating chemistry that explodes off the page, then you will love this book and this series. Highly Recommended.I am voluntarily reviewing an ARC of this book as supplied by the publisher via Netgalley.

*received an arc in exchange for an honest review**4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️The second book in Heather Van Fleet’s Reckless Heart series focuses on Max’s story. I have not read the first in this series but the author does such a great job of giving you a touch base on what’s going on that I never felt like I was lost. Max and Lia will grab your attention with their back and forth relationship and will keep you on your toes.Max has always felt something for Lia since he met her 5 years ago. But he has always put aside his feelings because of his relationship with Collin, her brother. As he continues to look out for her he can’t keep denying his feelings and when he finally acts on them, he wonders did he just make a mistake.Lia has been attracted to Max since day one but after her experience in college, she has always felt a little broken and wonders would he ever really feel anything for her. All the time the spend together has her going back and forth on if he might actually feel something for her and when he makes a move she wonders if it means more.As Lia and Max navigate their relationship without letting others know, they still continue to have some doubts. They not only begin to worry about what Collin will say but when an opportunity comes up for Lia, they are about to test their relationship further. Will they be able to finally break down all of their walls for each other?

The Right Kind of Reckless (Reckless Hearts) by Heather Van Fleet  What a man!  Max is a better man than he gives himself credit for.  He lives by a code.  Fights for the people he loves and is a stand up guy with a bit of baggage of his own.  Yet it's a cocky, smart mouthed, hard as nails, bad girl that speaks to his soul.  Confidence is a shield Lia wears to hide the scared woman within.  Behind the tattoos and piercings lies a damaged girl struggling to keep her head above water and her heart intact. Only one man has ever been able to see beyond the shield and navigate the treacherous road to her heart.  Is risking her heart worth exposing her secrets? Ms. Van Fleet holds nothing back.  The Right Kind of Reckless is an emotional journey into the abyss.  A tale of heartbreaking secrets, reckless love and long over do healing.  These characters target the heart but embed themselves much deeper.

This amazing love story of second chances will have you laughing and crying at the same time. I found this to be an emotional read that is written so beautifully with a loving heartwarming touch. Van Fleet has created a remarkable story that is so easy to get lost in because of the realistic way she has written the characters with an unforgettable love story that is sure to tug at your heartstrings. While this is the second book in The Reckless Heart Book Series, it can easily be read as a standalone. If you have not read the first book, Reckless Hearts, you will want to read it after you finish reading this one. I am so drawn into this world that Van Fleet has created and I cannot wait to read the next book in this series. Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romance novel.

Received an ARC for my fair review for netgalley. Well this was a forbidden love, because Max was in love with his best friends little sister, and he did not want to ruin the friendship, and even though he has a friendship with Leia , he pushes her aside and starts manwhorin, so as not to give in to his feelings..brillient, when in doubt just become a manwhore, seems the solution to all stories..I felt sorry for her, to read what that poor girl went thru, was heartbreaking, and then the way some people judged her, because of how she looked, truly pissed me off.. Anyway they work thru issues and get their HEA, I do want to know what happens with Gavin.

This is a sweet story, and I like that the characters are in their mid-20's, and for the most part acted it. I also liked that Lia is sassy and tattooed, and that she wasn't putting her life on hold waiting for Max. The opening scene with Max was gross, but I do like him. He's tough and light-hearted, and once he decided that he's being an idiot staying away from Lia, he wasn't going to let anything stand in the way. This is a friends to lovers, best friend's sister romance, and I love both of those aspects; mainly the best friend's sister romance part, so I loved the angst behind trying to fight the attraction they have for each other. Max and Lia are really cute and adorable together! I didn't read the first book before this one, and I don't feel like I needed to, but reading this one does make me want to read the first book since those characters are involved in this story. I'm also interested to read the next book in this series, I enjoy books that deal with PTSD, so I think I'll love that one! Good writing, entertaining read, and sweet, sexy romance!

A sweet, sizzling romance between a former Marine and his best friends sister. This is the second in the series, but the first one I've read. It can be read as a standalone story. Each character has a detailed, well thought out backstory which lends itself to this will-they-won't-they storyline. They overcome their issues and search for their happy ever after.I received an advance copy through Netgalley in order to provide this review.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review.Max is in love with a woman he knows he can't have but it doesn't stop him from wanting her. So he does the only thing he thinks will keep her off his mind, he stays away from her and sleeps with other women. Although it's not what he wants because she is his best friends little sister and he can not go there. Leanne "Lia" is trying to find herself and always with the wrong boyfriends that cheat on her and are just wrong for her. But after a traumatic event in her past, she doesn't trust easily but Max just wants to keep her safe like he did that night. She will have to learn to trust herself and him. They have been friends since that night and the sparks between them sizzle. Can Lia learn to trust her feels for Max and move forward? Will Max tell Collin the truth before he learns from someone else and it explodes in their faces? I loved the first story and this one was just as great. If you are looking for a sexy and sweet series with sexy, swoon-worthy Marines that find the women they love, then you need to read this series, it will not disappoint. And that little tidbit at the end with Gavin, OMG I can't wait for his story, I NEED IT NOW!

The Right Kind of Reckless is the second book in the Reckless Hearts trilogy. This series follows three former Marines, Collin, Max and Gavin, who have been together through boot camp and two tours of duty to Iraq. The first story in this series, Reckless Hearts, was Collin’s story and now this story is focused on Max Martinez. Max has been to hell and back with his best friends Collin and Gavin. In this installment, Max will finally face the secret that has been driving him crazy. That’s right, this is a secret romance story and everyone can get behind a proper secret romance. From the moment Max met Leanne Montgomery she had consumed his thoughts. Knowing that he could never make a move on her because she was Collin’s little sister, Max had accepted that friendship was all that they would ever have. Lia had also never given Max any indication that she saw him as anything more than her big brother’s best friend. Max wanted so much more with her but he knew that it was just too complicated and that Lia deserved more from a man than he had to give.Max and Lia had developed quite a friendship but a few months before there had been a shift in their friendship and it had left both of them hurt. Max was quite the ‘ladies man’ but his actions were truly an effort to keep himself emotionally distant from anyone as well as keep himself away from the only woman he ever wanted. When his friendship with Lia had become too much to bear he pulled back from her. He was secretly in love with Lia and it was getting to be too hard to not express his feelings and desires.Lia had no idea why Max had distanced himself from her and that hurt her deeply because she wanted more with him but didn’t have the guts to say it. To make matters worse, from her perspective it only seemed that Max saw her as ‘his little sister.’ Talk about unrequired love! Lia had been secretly in love with Max for a long time and his distance and attitude towards her was hurtful. Now whenever she and Max were together they were cool and distant from each other. Despite the gulf between them when Lia was in trouble she called on Max to come and bail her out. That single act would bring Max back into her life and start to repair the gulf that separated them, but it would not happen overnight. As the truth was slowly brought to light both Max and Lia have to find the courage to accept what they want and give voice to their needs. They both are works in progress but what they really needed was each other. Through their struggles to determine what they can truly have with each other they will have to overcome many odds that seem insurmountable.I love that The Right Kind of Reckless is told from alternating points of view. I get to feel what is going on with each of the characters and I loved it! I laughed, I felt the swoon, and I loved the romance between these two characters. They are both damaged in their own ways but they also wanted to be better for themselves. The friendship between the men in this story is also great, they cracked me up! I liked that there was tension in the relationship between the men but that they were able to keep everything intact despite the reveals that occur in this story. Overall, The Right Kind of Reckless is the perfect sizzling secret romance to light the fire in your heart. This review is based on a complimentary book I received from NetGalley. It is an honest and voluntary review. The complimentary receipt of it in no way affected my review or rating.Find this review with an EXCERPT at The Genre Minx Book Reviews

3.5 Stars-Slow to GoIn this second installment of the Reckless Hearts series, we delve into Max and Collin's sister Lia's lives. Max is best friend to Collin, so you know it's going to go all kinds of wrong when he admits to loving Collin's baby sister. Let the games begin!Right off the bat I liked Max and was annoyed by Lia. She had a chip on her shoulder from an incident in college. It sounded like a serious incident, however without many details from Heather Van Fleet, it was hard to understand the way Lia changed, attitude and appearance-wise. Max was a emotionally mixed up guy that is in love with his best friends girl, so like an idiot he turns himself into a manwhore to "F her out of his system". I HATE when the guy in a book does this, but is a sweetheart, super irritating. The set up is clear, best friends sister, manwhore she needs to stay away from and the round and round goes on chapter after chapter. As much as I liked this couple, it was starting to get boring waiting for some action. At one point I was more interested in Gavin, the mysterious third friend to Max and Collin. The book is well written, however very slow to make any real headway. While it's obvious what's going to happen with Max and Lia, we are given a few twists and turns from the author to make it more interesting. In the end, I didn't feel Max and Lia had much chemistry, so it was hard for me to really get into thier story. Now Gavin, he sounds pretty interesting. Reviewed for Renee Entress's Blog.
