josiah trenchard part three berserkergang Reviews
This is the third novella in what is shaping up to be a pretty kick ass series. Things feel a little bit different this go around...not only did I find the writing a lot tighter, but the plot really felt like it was digging in and giving us some serious meat with our ass kicking space soldiers. That's not to say that there isn't some insane action to go alongside all this fancy writing and plot development...hell...a soldier strips down naked and rends the flesh off of school kids with his teeth for crying out loud...! I'm just saying that this time around I see a lot of 'set up' taking place for future instalments. Which is good.Josiah Trenchard and his crew have become people to me now. I relate to their personalities, and care about the outcome of their exploits and harrowing predicaments. I cannot wait to see how things develop and where Mr. Fletcher takes us on what has turned out to be a kick ass whirlwind of a ride!
'Berserkergang' is the third novella length tale in the adventures of Josiah Trenchard, the hot-headed alcoholic space captain. This one was a little different from the first two, it felt kind of like it was setting the stage for something bigger still to come. The story had a fair bit more horror to it, and the banter among the troops was very amusing. The mix of horror and comedy within the sci-fi action setting made for a highly entertaining read and it's safe to say this is one of those books you don't put down until you've hit the last page!I am definitely hooked by this series. It would make a really cool late night sci-fi TV show! These novellas feel very much like action packed episodes, designed to keep the reader entertained and on the edge of their seats. Can't wait for the next book. Highly recommended for sci-fi action fans!
This is the second book of the Josiah Trenchard series I have read and once again Jonathan Fletcher, its hugely imaginative author, does not disappoint. Berserkergang is full of intrigue, mystery and suspense, with plenty of action, twists and turns thrown into the mix. At times dark and sinister, the plot is well drawn and the characters sublimely portrayed. A traitor in their midst is causing destruction and mayhem, but how and why are questions pursued with an enormous amount of suspense in the story. Will Trenchard survive and discover the identity of the masked assassin? Well, I’m not going to tell you that, you will have to read the book and find out for yourself! Definitely a book to recommend, particularly for scifi lovers.*Warning: the book ends on a cliff-hanger and you’ll just have to read part 4, the next instalment...
Jonathan Fletcher's pure awesomeness continues in the third part of the Trenchard series. This time it seems there is a traitor aboard 'The Might' and something else is also going on. Once again, the political world is in chaos and several incidents lead Trenchard toward the conclusions that something he knows well is up to something he really shouldn't be.A hallucinating trooper predicts future events but even that situation soon spirals out of control placing Trenchard in a dangerous situation. Another, short, segment in this epic series. Well worth purchasing and difficult to put down.R P Rochford. Author of: A Born Victim
I found this book a little different from the first two installments, but not in a negative way. Having introduced the main characters and setting up a few sub-plots with the initial books, Berserkergang gives a far greater sense of unease within the United Worlds, and smudges the lines that separate the two factions. The underlying plot is developed to a far greater extent and the individual characterizations continue to bloom.Without giving too much away, the story ends on a fairly sinister note, which hints at a far larger story still lurking in the author's head.Part four please.
PapaverThis series is excellent. Book 3 took up where book 2 left off. Trenchant is an excellent captain. He now has more suspicions of espionage but also that the Papaver corporation and the Japanese assassin are working together. This book had more battles on a distant planet he was sent to investigate. I look forward to reading book 4. The battle continues.........
